Daily Carb Intake Calculator

Calculate your recommended daily carbohydrate intake in grams based on your calorie goal and diet type.

What is Daily Carb Intake Calculator?

A daily carb intake calculator determines how many grams of carbohydrates you should eat each day based on your total calorie goal and chosen dietary approach. Carbohydrates are the body's primary energy source, but the ideal amount varies widely depending on whether you follow a balanced, low-carb, or ketogenic diet.

How to use

  1. 1 Enter your total daily calorie target.
  2. 2 Select your diet type: Balanced, Low-Carb, or Keto.
  3. 3 Your recommended carb intake in grams and as a percentage of calories appears instantly.

Formula

Carb calories = Total calories × carb percentage. Grams of carbs = Carb calories ÷ 4 (since carbs contain 4 kcal per gram). Balanced: 50% carbs. Low-carb: 25% carbs. Keto: 5% carbs.

Example calculation

On a 2,000 calorie balanced diet, carb calories = 2000 × 0.50 = 1000 kcal. Grams of carbs = 1000 ÷ 4 = 250 g. On a keto diet, carbs = 2000 × 0.05 = 100 kcal = 25 g.

Frequently asked questions

How many carbs should I eat per day?

General dietary guidelines suggest 45–65% of calories from carbs. For a 2,000 calorie diet that's 225–325 g. Low-carb diets typically aim for under 100–150 g, and keto under 50 g.

What is a low-carb diet?

A low-carb diet limits carbohydrates to roughly 20–25% of total calories, reducing reliance on glucose for energy and often promoting fat loss.

How few carbs does keto require?

Keto typically limits carbs to 20–50 g per day (around 5% of calories) to induce and maintain nutritional ketosis.

Are all carbs bad?

No. Whole-food carbs like fruits, vegetables, legumes, and whole grains come with fiber, vitamins, and minerals. Refined carbs and added sugars are what most guidelines recommend limiting.

What happens if I eat too few carbs?

Very low carb intake can cause fatigue, headaches, and irritability initially (the 'keto flu'). Long term, some people thrive; others need more carbs for optimal performance and mood.
