What is Bill Splitter Calculator?

A bill splitter calculator divides a restaurant bill — including tip — equally among any number of people. You choose the tip percentage with a slider, and the calculator shows the tip amount, the grand total, and exactly how much each person owes. A quick-reference table shows the breakdown for four common tip levels at once.

How to use

  1. 1 Enter the bill amount before tax or after, depending on your preference.
  2. 2 Use the slider to choose a tip percentage from 0% to 30%.
  3. 3 Enter the number of people splitting the bill.
  4. 4 Read the per-person total below. The reference table shows common tip levels for comparison.

Formula

Tip = Bill × (tip% ÷ 100) Total = Bill + Tip Per person = Total ÷ People

Example calculation

A $120 dinner split 4 ways with an 18% tip: Tip = $21.60, Total = $141.60, Per person = $35.40.

Frequently asked questions

Should I tip on the pre-tax or post-tax amount?

Tipping on the pre-tax subtotal is technically standard, but tipping on the total is widely accepted and easier. This calculator tips on whatever amount you enter.

Can I split unevenly?

This calculator splits the total equally. For uneven splits, calculate each person's share of the food cost separately, then apply the tip percentage to each.

What tip percentage is standard?

15% is considered the minimum for decent service in the US, 18–20% is standard, and 25% or more is for exceptional service.
