A time duration calculator computes either the elapsed time between two clock times or the total of multiple durations added together. The Time Between mode is ideal for calculating shift lengths, meeting durations, or workout times. The Add Durations mode lets you sum up multiple time blocks, useful for tracking billable hours or total travel time.
How to use it
- 1️⃣ Choose Time Between to find the gap between a start and end time, or Add Durations to sum multiple time blocks.
- 2️⃣ In Time Between mode, enter your start and end times using the time pickers.
- 3️⃣ In Add Durations mode, enter hours, minutes, and seconds for each block and click Add duration for more rows.
- 4️⃣ Remove unwanted rows with the X button.
- 5️⃣ The result shows the total duration in hours and minutes, plus the total in seconds.

❓ Common questions
- Does the calculator handle overnight durations?
- Yes. If the end time is earlier than the start time, the calculator assumes the duration crosses midnight and adds 24 hours to the difference. For example, 11:00 PM to 7:00 AM correctly returns 8 hours.
- Can I enter seconds in the Time Between mode?
- The Time Between mode uses time pickers with minute precision. For second-level accuracy, use the Add Durations mode where you can enter hours, minutes, and seconds separately.
- How do I calculate total work hours for a week?
- Switch to Add Durations mode and add one row per workday. Enter the hours and minutes for each day, then read the total at the bottom. This is also useful for tracking billable time across multiple projects.
- What is the maximum duration I can calculate?
- There is no practical upper limit. You can add as many duration rows as needed, and the total seconds value will reflect the complete sum regardless of how large it grows.
- Can I calculate the duration between specific dates and times?
- This calculator handles clock times only. For durations that span multiple days, use the Date Difference Calculator, which computes differences in days, hours, and minutes between two full date-time values.
